Here are some answers to your
questions???
Who is teaching this class? Hi, I'm Steve Natran, a retired Social
Worker who used to work at the Misericordia Hospital.
I have taken ballroom lessons from the U of A Ballroom
Dance Club from 1990 until 2006. And numerous workshops from local as well as
international instructors.
I started teaching ballroom dance classes @ the Mis in 1998.
I feel I have sufficient skills to instruct you from the beginner into the intermediate
level. When I can no longer meet your needs, I will be able to connect you with
other instructors who can.
If you are looking to be a competitive dancer I will
assist you to find someone who can help you with this. My aim is to teach social dancing
not competitive dancing.
Do I need to know how to dance already to come to the
beginner class?
Nope, no experience necessary! The beginner class teaches the most basic steps and
patterns for all of the ballroom dances, which includes waltz, foxtrot, rumba, cha cha and
swing / jive!
Do I have to have a partner?
Yes, you need to have a partner. It is difficult to practice dance without a partner (not
impossible). I prefer to work with couples.
Do I have to buy special shoes or outfits?
No, you don't need anything special. However, I do recommend that you don't wear
rubber-soled shoes on the dance floor, since it both marks up the floor and can hurt your
knees (and it makes it harder for you to dance).
Ladies can wear any pair of dress shoes and men can
wear smooth soled dress shoes. Remember to wear loose comfortable clothing, especially the
ladies as you will be raising your arms for underarm turns.
I will continue to teach individuals in their homes as well as the group lessons in Leduc
on Mondays, Barrhead on Wednesdays and Stony Plain on Fridays.
I am also an agent of Sixth Star Entertainment out of Florida and can evaluate gents on
their dance skills and recommend them to be Dance Hosts on cruise ships.
